About the Zan Young School of Music and Hope

The Zan Young School is a non-profit entity that provides low- or no-cost music lessons (private and group) for under-privileged children in Chattanooga. The brain-child of violinist Jaime Jorge, and an arm of his Healing Music program, the school provides everything a student needs to learn music, including lessons, instruments, music books, coordination with community mentors, and sometimes even transportation to and from lessons.  Counselors work closely with families to guide them through the process.  Janelle Glass is the director of the program, as well as the head teacher.  Thanks to her insightful connections, music majors from Southern Adventist University partner with Zan Young School to provide lessons as part of their service-learning credit.

The Zan Young School needs more instruments to put into the hands of these worthy young students

Hope Twinkles' goal is to raise enough to buy 4 small cellos ($900 each).

Additional funds can buy violins ($400 each).

The luthier providing the instruments is Jason Bartel at Maple Leaf Strings.

There are also non-financial ways to support the fantastic work at the Zan Young School of Music and Hope.  Director Janelle Glass has done a fabulous job of making opportunities for community partners to support the students and families of the Zan Young School through mentoring partnerships, and "adopting" students ( by coming to their concerts, encouraging them in their practice, cheering them on in their musical growth).  Contact Janelle directly to find out more.  (See the contact page.)
